This page contains answers to common questions about working with Orange Moon Student Safety Services. 

What does it mean to be an independent contractor?

Independent contractors:

  • Are not employees 
  • Choose which assignments to accept 
  • Are responsible for their own taxes and obligations 
  • Are paid per assignment 
  • Are not guaranteed a set number of hours

When you accept an assignment, you’re entering a binding service commitment for that specific job.

How early should I arrive for an assignment?

Arrive 10–15 minutes before your assignment start time unless the assignment details specify otherwise. Early arrival:

  • Ensures you’re ready to begin on time 
  • Helps avoid late arrivals 
  • Supports reliable client service

Can I decline assignments?

Yes. You may accept or decline any assignment offered through the contractor platform.


Once you accept an assignment, it is a binding commitment unless canceled at least 48 hours before the scheduled start time.

What happens if I can’t make an accepted assignment?

If you cancel within the 48-hour window, it may affect your eligibility for future assignments.

Cancellations within 48 hours may result in:

  • Performance points 
  • Reduced access to future work 
  • Removal from the platform for future assignments

Do I need a background check?

Yes. A background check is required before you can begin work.


You are responsible for payment via Stripe at the time it is ordered through the contractor onboarding platform.
Externally obtained reports (screenshots, PDFs, edited documents) are not accepted.


Background checks are valid for three (3) years and may be required sooner in certain circumstances (such as a lapse in service or safety concern).

When will I get paid?

Assignment payments are processed via Stripe once the assignment is completed and all required reports or deliverables are verified.


For overnight assignments, payment is generally processed by 2:00 PM the following business day.

Do you provide equipment or devices?

Contractors are expected to use their own mobile device and technology to:

  • Access the contractor platform 
  • Submit reports 
  • Communicate as needed

You are responsible for ensuring your device is charged and functional throughout your assignment.

Can I work for other companies while contracting with Orange Moon?

Yes. You may work with other clients or companies as long as:


  • You honor your accepted assignments with Orange Moon 
  • There are no conflicts of interest 
  • You follow all Orange Moon policies when working assignments

What is the uniform requirement?

Contractors must meet the Orange Moon appearance standards listed in your assignment details.

Typical expectations include:

  • Orange company-approved top or equivalent 
  • Professional‐style dark pants 
  • Closed-toe and closed-heel footwear 
  • Orange Moon identification badge

Uniform expectations may vary by assignment location — always review the assignment details.

How do I update my availability?

You can update your availability in the contractor portal.
Keeping your availability current helps ensure you receive relevant assignment offers. 

What do I do if I have trouble with the app or reporting?

If you experience technical issues or reporting errors:


  • Use the communication tools in the portal 
  • Contact Support right away

Can I get reimbursed for parking or other expenses?

Yes — if the assignment terms include expense reimbursement (such as parking), you must submit valid receipts through the contractor platform for reimbursement.


All reimbursements are processed through the same payment provider (e.g., Stripe) once the assignment is complete.

What if I lose access to the contractor portal?

If you cannot log in:

  1. Check your internet connection 
  2. Reset your password via the portal 
  3. Contact support if issues persist

Support will guide you through restoring access.

How do I get more assignments?

Assignments depend on:

  • Availability you set in the portal 
  • Client demand 
  • Your performance eligibility
     

Staying responsive, completing assignments reliably, and keeping your availability up to date can help you receive more offers.

How are performance points used?

Performance points measure trends in assignment fulfillment. They may impact your eligibility for future assignments.
